Questions/Answers

This page will be devoted to questions/answers that people have either asked in person, or sent an e-mail. E-mails are sent to Holmey and the sender remains anonymous. Occasionally (most of the time) Holmey either phones the office or visits in person to get replies that he does not know the answer to.

With all that in mind, lets go to the questions!

Q- Isn't the web site just a 'front' to rent the building, a tool of the owner or of the management?

Absolutely NOT! The management of the building does have input to the pages, they inform me what units are vacant, allow me to photograph apartments and inform me of changes, but the pages are not the property of the management or of the owner. Everything that is written in these pages are the original thoughts of the residents of the building. Since neither the management or the owner pays for the bandwidth, the hosting, the design, or the domain they have no say over what content is within the pages. However you are correct in that it is a tool that is used to show our building and residents to other potential renters.

Q- Do you mean to tell me that if someone asked/wrote something terrible about the building you would publish here?

Hummmm. If someone were to have a serious problem I would first contact the management and see if we could resolve it. After all, we (the residents) are all effected by whatever happens (or does not happen) with the building. Hopefully we can meet and discuss problems and have them resolved. Any serious problems would certainly make it to the RAG pages and status tracked. If we could not resolve it, then yes the question would be published, with an answer that the matter is under advisement with the management.

Q- I notice that most of the time the dumpster lids are in the open position, birds and squirrels are always in there. Why is it not closed?

It seems as if some of the residents can carry their trash/garbage to the dumpster, then forget to open the lid to throw the trash in. (You know which tenant you are) when Frank Jr comes over to do work here he always finds at least a few items (or bags) laying on top of the closed bins, or sitting next to the dumpsters. To remedy this Frank puts the bin in the open position.

Q- I heard from a friend that heard from a very reliable source that the building may be going condo. What's up with that?

Uh-huh. It was also mentioned to me when I signed my lease. If it did I would be happy to buy here (at the right price). A little story: I lived here in 1977 in the 3302 unit. At that time it was rumored that the building was going condo and although some work was done with the heating at that time, the whole idea sort of fizzled away. The reality is that for the building to go condo a lot of MAJOR work would have to be done.

Q- I have problems with a neighbor that plays their music to loud, what can be done to stop this?

When dealing with a noisy neighbor there are up to 3 steps to take to cease it. One- speak with your neighbor and explain that the music is a little to loud for the time of the day (or night). Two- Phone the office and explain your concerns. Three- Call the police. Usually the first option works, if you are unwilling to confront your neighbor, then call the office and they will ask the offending neighbor to tone it down. If it is 2 AM on a Saturday morning, phone the police and I guarantee that THEY will have the noise stop.

Q- How about a barking dog?

Same answer.

Q- From time to time I see what would best be described as suspicious persons hanging around the building. What should I do?

Occasionally there are workmen here from Charter, Southwest Bell, roof persons, air-conditioner people etc. If you see 'suspicious' people during the day, phone the office and ask if you are concerned. If it is after office hours and they are truly suspicious phone the police, they will investigate it.

Q- The hallway lights outside my door are not working, and have been out for almost 2 weeks now. What do I do?

If any lights in the common areas (lights outside of your apartment) are not working call the office! They have a man on staff who is responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of the building. Frank Jr is happy to replace the bulbs but before he can replace them he must be made aware they are burned out. Phone the office and just inform them of what floor, and what unit needs to be fixed and I guarantee that it will be done in a timely fashion.

Q- What is the policy regarding bugs/insects in the building?

There is a strict NO bugs policy. <smile> Just kidding, but after talking with Frank at the office he informed me that if anyone DOES notice any bugs to call them immediately. They will be out ASAP to spray any and all effected areas. <side note: since I have lived here I have yet to see a single bug, except for those HUGE June bugs that fly into the apartment when the door is kept open.

Q- I notice that there is a page called Entertainment and shopping, but nothing is there?

Yes, there is nothing there at the time. I hope that within the next few months that I can suggest restaurants, grocery stores, or other shopping places in the immediate area that people try. If anyone would like to 'review' one of their favorite areas for shopping or eating it will be posted on the page!

<end of questions/answers for June>

The main point that is attempted to get across in these (and other) pages is that if there is a problem, or a potential problem dealing with any safety issues (burned out bulbs are a safety issue) is to phone the office. I know this is repeating myself, but if the office is unaware of a problem, they can't fix it.

If you have questions that you would like to have answered either ask Holmey in person, or e-mail him. Your name will never be supplied to anyone. E-mail your questions to holmeystl@hotmail.com.
